FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) – No charges will be filed after authorities say a “misunderstanding,” not a bomb threat, caused a Spirit Airlines flight to return to a Florida airport.

Spirit Flight 595 departed from Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport late Thursday, bound for Minneapolis with 92 passengers and six crew members. The plane quickly returned to the airport because of what the Broward Sheriff’s Office called a “perceived” bomb threat.

Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Keyla Concepcion says no explosives were found, and the FBI interviewed two men along with five other passengers and flight attendants.

Concepcion says the FBI determined there wasn’t a threat, and the incident stemmed from an overheard phone conversation and a subsequent miscommunication among passengers, the flight crew and the pilot.

A statement from the airline says the crew followed safety protocols.
