Caught on camera: Gators wrestling at SWFL golf course

ENGLEWOOD, Fla. – Two gators were caught on camera fighting at a Southwest Florida golf course on Saturday.

Lynn Sarles was golfing at the Myakka Pines Golf Club in Englewood, when she witnessed the gators fighting on the course.

“We’re standing up there and we just turned and looked and there they were,” said Sarles.

Sarles estimated the gators were at least 10 feet long.

Myakka Pines members say though they see gators and other wildlife all the time when they’re teeing off, they’ve never witnessed anything like this before.

“They were rolling over and they were up in the air and you could see their feet flailing,” said Sarles. “You could see them both chomping.”

According to Sarles, the fight lasted almost 10 minutes before the two reptiles had enough and went their separate ways.

“Eventually the smaller one, when they split up was limping to get back to the water,” said Sarles. “So I guess the one won the fight.”

The bigger gator is well-known in Southwest Florida. Golfers call him “Goliath” and he’s known for making appearances on the course. His picture even made it on ESPN and CNN.

WINK News reached out to FWC to find out if the gators were fighting, mating or just playing around and we were told they “definitely weren’t mating this time of year.”
