JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) – An elementary school student faces felony charges for grabbing a teacher’s wrist.

The 11-year-old boy was arrested Wednesday.

The child’s mother told The Florida Times-Union (http://bit.ly/1N7D7AE ) she believes the arrest was in retaliation for some complaints she’s lodged against teacher Pamela Riggs Stoia.

Stoia’s attorney Stephanie Schaap says says the teacher was treated twice for a sprained wrist and hand after the encounter with the Southside Estates Elementary fifth grader on November 20.

Superintendent Nikolai Vitti said Thursday it was enough for the boy to serve two days of suspension. He says the district tried, but failed, to stop the boy’s arrest.

The teacher said at the time she didn’t want to press charges. She only wanted to document the event.

The boy was held overnight in juvenile detention.
