KEY WEST, Fla. (AP) – Authorities have charged an inmate with aggravated battery after deputies say he tried to strangle a cellmate because of his loud snoring.
WTVJ-TV (http://bit.ly/1SKUVFG ) reports the incident took place Saturday afternoon at the Monroe County Jail on Stock Island.
Sheriff’s spokeswoman Becky Herrin says a corrections deputy heard cries for help coming from a cell. When they approached the cell, deputies found 30-year-old Darvin Cano Murillo trying to strangle 61-year-old David Reedy with a laundry bag.
Reedy told deputies he had been sleeping before the attack. He says he was able to call for help after a few minutes of struggling with Murillo.
It isn’t immediately clear if Murillo has an attorney.
