CAPE CORAL, Fla. – Former U.S. Army soldier Jessica Lynch met with dozens of veterans Sunday morning. Pfc. Lynch placed her dog tags on the Iraqi Star monument located at the Veterans Memorial area at Four Mile Cover Ecological Preserve. Lynch was a supply clerk with the Army’s 507th Maintenance Company when she was captured in March 2003. Her supply convoy took a wrong turn and was attacked in Nasiriyah. Lynch was just 19 years old at the time and was one of six soldiers captured. Eleven U.S. soldiers were killed. Sunday, Lynch said it was an honor to be welcomed in Southwest Florida and took a moment to honor her best friend Lori, who died in the 2003 ambush. “I love that they’re honoring me, but to me it’s more about my comrades who didn’t make it home. Being able to honor them and to keep their life, their memory, their legacy continuing, that’s what’s more important,” she said. Lynch is scheduled to leave Southwest Florida Monday.
