NAPLES, Fla. – A home on 26th Avenue SE went up in flames early Wednesday morning in Golden Gate Estates.

Fire officials say they received a call just before 3:30 a.m. for a brush fire, but when crews arrived at the scene, they discovered the home engulfed in flames.

The second floor of the house caved in and was destroyed when officials arrived. Firefighters say the electricity to the home was on, but there were no cars in the driveway.

The property owner arrived at the home late Wednesday morning. He says he and his wife bought the home as an investment property a few months ago. The couple was in the process of fixing it up, and installing new appliances, while preparing to put the house up for rent.

The owner says while the fire is devastating, he’s glad no one was living there yet. The cause of the fire is being investigated.
