Football vigil honors Naples father of four killed by drunk driver

GOLDEN GATE ESTATES, Fla.- Nearly a thousand players, fans and coaches stood on the football field at Palmetto Ridge High School to honor Cecil Riner who was killed by a drunk driver earlier this month.

Riner, 33, was a father of four and coached a year around pee wee football league. Coaches organized a vigil on the field where they stood in a pattern that spelled out Riner on the field. The Collier County Sheriff’s helicopter caught the emotional vigil from high above the field snapping unforgettable photos of the event.

Riner was hit and killed by a drunk driver on the way to a holiday party with his wife. Jessica Riner, his wife, survived.
