OCALA, Fla. (AP) – A judge has sentenced a north Florida man to life in prison for shots he fired during a six-hour standoff with a SWAT team.

The Ocala Star-Banner (http://bit.ly/1mfZuwQ) reports that a Marion County judge sentenced 36-year-old Dustin Heathman on Tuesday following last week’s verdict. Heathman read a letter saying he is innocent of the charges and that he never tried to kill anyone.

Prosecutors say Heathman fired the shots in June 2014 after deputies tried to serve a warrant related to traffic violations. He was convicted of seven charges, including second-degree attempted murder of a police officer.

Investigators recovered guns, ballistic vests, helmets and about 4,000 round of ammunition from his house.

In his letter, Heathman says he plans to appeal.
