Six tourists rescued near north Captiva Island

CAPTIVA ISLAND, Fla.- Six people are safe after their boat capsized near north Captiva Island Tuesday.

According to the U.S. Coast Guard, tourists who are staying in Cape Coral took a deck boat that came with their rental home out on the water.

They were trying to “beach” the boat so they could go walk around the beach when it began taking on water before sinking.

A good Samaritan nearby saw the people in distress and took them aboard their boat and alerted the Coast Guard.

Florida Fish and Wildlife officials then took the tourists to Safety Harbor before the Lee County Sheriff’s Office returned them to Cape Coral. Officials say no one was injured.
