NAPLES, Fla. – An East Naples man was arrested for being drunk and disorderly at the beach.

Police say 41-year-old Michael Hoover harassed girls and offered them alcohol under the Naples Pier on Tuesday.

Authorities say the girls, who were underage, refused the alcohol but Hoover made them feel uncomfortable and would not leave them alone. When police arrested Hoover, they say he smelled of alcohol and cursed in front of beachgoers.

Some parents tell WINK News his actions are concerning.

“I guess it doesn’t surprise me. Obviously it’s not good and you don’t know what his motives might be, but it really doesn’t surprise me that that happens,” said Dave Fochtmon, who has two daughters.

“I think that’s horrible,” said Sandra Neudorf, who says the news hits close to home for her because she has three daughters. “I’d be really angry and I would go and approach that person and I would tell them that’s not something you should be doing, this is a family beach and we’re here to enjoy the sunshine, not be intoxicated.”

Hoover’s arrest report states he also told the officer driving him to jail that he was going to find out where he lived and go to his house.

Since 2005, Hoover has been arrested nine times for charges including battery, DUI, and trespassing.
