Downtown Fort Myers throws New Years Eve bash to remember

FORT MYERS, Fla. – Thousands of people flocked to Downtown Fort Myers to celebrate New Years Eve.

“It’s pretty much all hands on deck, you know we start getting everything ready a couple days ahead of time, get our grill ready,” Jodi Maher, the general manager of Hideaway said.

“I’ve replaced half the strings, I should have just replaced the whole thing,” said a man putting the finishing touches on the New Years ball.

There was food, 5 live bands and a DJ, as well as a balloon drop for the kids earlier in the night. However, the balloon drop did not go off as planned; they did not drop right away and eventually all came down together while still in the net.

It was the biggest event in Downtown Fort Myers since ZombiCon in October, where seven people were shot. The incident sped up the process to add in new security cameras in time for the New Years Eve party.

However, the eyes in the sky didn’t stop anyone from having fun.
