One killed in Charlotte County wreck

PUNTA GORDA, Fla. – One person was killed and four others were injured after two vehicles collided on U.S. Highway 17 at Washington Loop Road on Monday.

A 2000 Cadillac Deville driven by Thomas Holloman, 77, of Yorktown, Ind., was traveling westbound on Washington Loop Road when he attempted to make a left turn onto U.S. Highway 17 South, the state Highway Patrol said. Holloman turned into the path of a northbound 2002 Dodge Ram driven by Jose Martin Gaspar Matias, 62, of Fort Myers, troopers said. Both vehicles came to rest in the southbound lanes.

Holloman was pronounced dead at the scene, troopers said. Sui Holloman, 78, of Yorktown, Ind., was airlifted to Lee Memorial Hospital as a trauma alert. Linda Hee, 86, of Inverness, was a passenger in the Cadillac and was taken to Bayfront Punta Gorda Hospital in stable condition. Frederick Myers, 81, of Inverness, was also in the Cadillac and was taken to Bayfront Punta Gorda in serious condition.

Gaspar Matias was taken to Bayfront Punta Gorda in stable condition.

Southbound lanes of U.S. 17 were temporarily blocked at the intersection.

The state Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
