NAPLES, Fla.- Drivers in Collier County can expect major traffic delays this weekend because of a two-day triathlon.

The HITS Triathlon Series will take place in parts of North Naples, Golden Gate Estates and Ave Maria Saturday and Sunday.

The sheriff’s office recommends motorists use Interstate 75 for north and south travels because of significant traffic delays at all north and south intersections along Vanderbilt Beach Road during race times.

“If you happen to travel on Vanderbilt Beach Road, there may be a delay up to 45 minutes, 30 – 45 minutes. We’re asking if you could take an alternate route,” said Cpl. Efrain Hernandez, with the Collier County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies will be stationed both days at every traffic light along the entire stretch of Vanderbilt Beach Road, authorities said.

For detailed maps of the route for each event, visit the HITS Triathlon Series website.
