Lee County couple jailed after allegedly stealing from elderly

CAPE CORAL, Fla.- A man says he was swindled out of hundreds of dollars by a couple who preyed on the elderly.

Annette Lowe, 36, and Lisvany Becerra, 33, are accused of taking thousands of dollars in a scheme where they promised to do work, took cash, but never completed any jobs.

Cape Coral police said the suspects allegedly stole from eight different people, including 72-year-old Gill Logan.

“They were both pretty slick, pretty experienced con-artists I think,” said Logan.

Logan says the crooks, who he described as very relatable, approached his home about repairs needed.

“He gave me the whole shot about how ‘You remind me of my dad. He was a hard worker.’ And this and that,” Logan said. “He played on your sympathy and you feel sorry for them really that they are hard working, young couple and you want to help them out.”

Logan gave Lowe and Becerra $200 to pick up materials to replace his lanai screens.

“The next day, he came back he said he needed another $100, so I gave him another $100 and then he changed the amount on the check when he cashed it,” Logan said.

About a third of the work to Logan’s home was completed, but he has not seen Lowe and Becerra since.

“You feel stupid that you let that happen even though your suspicious from the start,” Logan said. “They were good enough to override your suspicions.”

Lowe and Becerra are both in custody at the Lee County jail.
