Cape Coral celebrates tornado cleanup efforts

CAPE CORAL, Fla. – Community members and business owners were honored Sunday for their service after an EF2 tornado hit Cape Coral in January.

The event, Cape Coral Tornado Appreciation, included food and live music at Fathoms Restaurant and Bar on Cape Harbour Drive. More than 50 businesses and community members were recognized for their efforts and event organizers awarded plaques.

“We just want to let them know we’re still in their corner, cheering them on and recognizing that we’re trying to help out still to this day,” an event organizer said Sunday.

The event was a special moment for one family whose home was condemned after the storm. Jessica Stevenson and her family were given $913 in donations.
