Spring breakers offer mixed reactions to murky waters

FORT MYERS BEACH, Fla. – Spring breakers in Southwest Florida said they are not letting the murky beach water from Lake Okeechobee releases affect their vacation.

The unseasonably wet weather has forced authorities to allow billions of gallons of dark water to spill out into the Gulf of Mexico.

Lee County commissioner will meet tomorrow to discuss funding an emergency campaign to encourage tourists to visit.

But some visitors said they weren’t bothered. Others said they would not get near the water for fear of their health.
