2 men arrested in unrelated North Port shootings

NORTH PORT, Fla.- Three people were injured in two unrelated shootings on Tuesday, North Port police said.

Nicholas Popko, 25, is facing charges for attempted murder in the first shooting that happened shortly before 6 p.m. at Blue Ridge Park. Two people were taken to Sarasota Memorial Hospital in critical condition, authorities said. Police say the shooting was not random.

William K Burger III, 37, was arrested for the second shooting that took place in the 4300 block of Wesley Lane late Tuesday night. Police say Burger got into an argument with the victim and shot him in the hand. The victim was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Burger is facing charges for aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.
