JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) – A Jacksonville man has been sentenced to 25 years in prison for fatally shooting his girlfriend on Christmas night in 2014.

The Florida Times-Union reports that 25-year-old Breon Fussell was sentenced this week after pleading guilty to second-degree murder.

Authorities say Fussell and 22-year-old Shannon Woods got into an argument in the backyard of Fussell’s parents’ house. At least one shot was fired, and Fussell told his parents to call 911.

Shortly after the shooting, a family member of Woods told detectives that Woods had been planning to break up with Fussell.
