Teenage girl escapes abduction; police searching for suspect

FORT MYERS, Fla. – A man tried to abduct a teenage girl from a bus stop near High and Second streets Friday afternoon, police said; authorities are still looking for the man.

A 16-year-old told Fort Myers police that she was waiting at a bus stop around 4:45 p.m. when a man asked her for directions from his car. As she walked to the man he grabbed her arm and forced her into his car, police said.

The man drove near Shady Oaks Park on Marion Street with the girl who was able to escape, police said. The man drove off before police arrived, according to police.

Police are still looking for the suspect who is described as a white, 50-year-old man with curly blonde hair and classes. He was last seen wearing light blue jeans and a v-neck shirt and work boots. Police said he may have a ring on his left hand and was armed with a knife.

The man was driving a newer red Lexus four-door sedan with minor damage near the driver’s side door.
