Gas leak forces evacuation of Port Charlotte daycare

PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. – The leaking propane tank that caused an evacuation of a nearby daycare center was contained before 6:30 p.m. on Monday, Charlotte County EMS and Fire said.

A child care worker at Rainbows End Pre-School, 2100 Loveland Blvd., contacted emergency dispatchers after smelling propane around 4 p.m., officials said. The children were evacuated to the Seventh Day Adventist Church on Rampart Boulevard, authorities said.

The tank is located between the pre-school and a Salvation Army building, which was also evacuated.

No injuries were reported.
