PALATKA, Fla. (AP) – Divers found the body of a Florida sheriff’s deputy about 100 yards from spot where the boat she was riding on hit a marker buoy on the St. Johns River.

The Florida Times-Union reports 35-year-old Putnam County Sheriff’s deputy Brandee Smith was apparently thrown from the 14-foot boat early Friday morning. Her body was found Saturday afternoon.

Smith’s boyfriend Phillip John wasn’t injured in the crash. Authorities say he called 911.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission is investigating. Spokesman Greg Workman says they’re reviewing the 911 tape, photographs and witness statements as part of the investigation. Toxicology tests are also being conducted.

Smith’s funeral is planned for 10 a.m. Thursday in Palatka.
