NAPLES, Fla.- Two men are facing illegal hunting charges for shooting at deer and wild turkey from their truck in the Picayune Strand State Forest.

Ernesto Dorta, 43, and Jorge Perez, 51, were shooting at game in an area closed to the public, according to Florida Fish and Wildlife officials. CollierdeerFWC

Inside the truck, FWC officials found three long guns on top of a blood-stained blanket in the back seat. A nine-point buck and a spike, both in velvet, were also found under the stained blanket, according to authorities.

“It’s illegal for a reason,” said Officer Stuart Spoede with FWC. “Anytime they’re shooting off a road, out of a moving vehicle, it’s illegal by state law. They were also shooting in closed areas that were closed to hunting so they’re trespassing at that point as well.”

Dorta and Perez were charged with hunting out of season and hunting in an unauthorized area.
