DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (AP) – A central Florida Man has been convicted of killing his girlfriend’s 2-year-old daughter.

The Daytona Beach News-Journal (http://goo.gl/RqKI25) reports that jurors found Phillip Hamilton guilty Friday of the lesser charges of manslaughter and felony battery. He had been facing charges of aggravated child abuse and first-degree felony murder. His sentencing will be scheduled later.

Authorities say Hamilton was watching Gabriella Sade Sorey in November 2011 when she soiled her pull-up diaper, and Hamilton got some of the mess on his clothing while cleaning it up. Prosecutors say Hamilton struck and kicked the little girl.

Officials say Hamilton called 911 and claimed the girl had fallen down some stairs. A Volusia County medical examiner testified that the injuries didn’t match a fall down stairs.
