TARPON SPRINGS, Fla. (AP) – A 17-year-old girl has been rescued after she became separated from relatives while on a kayaking trip off the coast of Tarpon Springs.

The U.S. Coast Guard says the girl’s relatives reported her missing Sunday night. Four hours later, a helicopter crew spotted her drifting northwest of Honeymoon Island State Park.

The Tampa Bay Times reports the girl told rescuers that she had lost her paddle when she was struck by the wake from a boat.

The Coast Guard says the girl appeared to be suffering from mild hypothermia.

Her name was not released. No further details were immediately available.
