2 Florida candidates for US Senate will meet in open debate

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) – Two U.S. Senate candidates from Florida are going to square off in an “open debate” where the questions will be chosen by public vote.

U.S. Reps. Alan Grayson, a Democrat, and David Jolly, a Republican, are scheduled to answer the questions on Monday night. Debate moderators must choose their questions from among the top 30 vote-getters, according to the Open Debate Coalition.

One day before the debate the leading vote getters included questions on climate change, renewable energy, Social Security, and campaign finance laws.

The debate will feature just two candidates even though the race has several candidates. U.S. Rep. Patrick Murphy, who declined to participate in the debate, is challenging Grayson in the Democratic primary.

There are several GOP candidates running against Jolly. The primary election will be held Aug. 30.
