WASHINGTON (AP) – President Barack Obama is traveling to Florida Friday for two fundraisers aimed at helping Democratic candidates in the coming general election and will stay for what is expected to be a weekend of golf.

The two fundraisers are taking place at private residences in Miami. The first, closed to the press, will raise money for the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee. The committee is spearheading efforts designed to help Democrats retake the majority in the Senate.

With Republican Sen. Marco Rubio currently opting to not seek re-election, the Senate race in Florida is viewed as intensely competitive. Democrats need to pick up five seats to take the majority.

Obama will also attend a fundraiser for the Democratic National Committee in the evening before traveling to Palm City, Florida, for the weekend.
