FORT MYERS, Fla. – The man at the center of an Amber Alert for Diana Alvarez has been transferred to the Lee County jail, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office said Monday morning.

Jorge Guerrero, 28, was taken into custody early Saturday morning in Okeechobee County.

But Alvarez, 9, remains missing.

Family members have said Alvarez was very attached to Guerrero, who at one time rented a room in their home at the Sheltering Pines Mobile Home Village.

The sheriff’s office described Guerrero as a “person of interest” in a statement, but did not say if he is facing any criminal charges.

Alvarez was reported missing on May 29. She was last seen at her home on the 3500 block of Unique Circle near San Carlos Park.

Alvarez is described as 4 feet 4 inches tall, 95 pounds, has dark hair and brown eyes, as well as two scars on one of her legs. She was last seen wearing a short-sleeve shirt and shorts, and may be carrying a green blanket with flower print.
