ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) – An Orlando woman has been sentenced to a year in jail after police say she abandoned her missing newborn baby.

News agencies report that officials say Susan Richardson was sentenced Monday in Orange County on a charge of child neglect and child neglect-unlawful desertion.

Richardson was arrested four months ago following the disappearance of her newborn in Orlando. Police say someone reported finding placenta and after-birth in the parking lot of the Willow Bend Apartments on Feb. 15.

Detectives concluded that a full-term baby had been born, but there was no sign of the infant.

Authorities say Richardson said that she left the baby on the doorstep at an apartment complex, but police were unable to find the child after searching the neighborhood.

Richardson will receive credit for time served.
