ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) – The Sunshine Skyway Bridge spanning Tampa Bay reopened early Wednesday after having been closed in both directions due to a tanker truck fire since Tuesday morning.

Florida Highway Patrol spokesman Steve Gaskins said Tuesday morning in an email that the driver received minor injuries.

The tanker was on fire in the southbound lanes at the top of the bridge’s span. The FHP says the tanker was carrying nearly 4,000 gallons of diesel fuel.

The bridge spans the bay between Pinellas and Manatee counties and is part of Interstate 275, a main artery on Florida’s west coast.
