NAPLES, Fla. — The director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says the mosquitoes thought to be transmitting the Zika virus on the east coast of Florida may be resistant to the insecticide Miami-Dade County uses. But Dr. Mark Clifton of Collier County mosquito control says his agency has known for years that Aedes aegypti, the mosquitoes that carry the virus are resistant to a certain class of insecticides.
