ESTERO, Fla. — A crash that left a Naples woman dead and seriously injured two others blocked two lanes of southbound traffic on Interstate 75 near Exit 123 for hours on Friday night, Florida Highway Patrol said.

The collision took place when Candy Riley Harris, 46, stopped the 2003 Nissan Altima she was driving in the center lane to remove debris that was in the highway, according to FHP.

Phoenix resident Stephanie Elaine Arnold, 43, was directly behind Harris and unable to stop the 2016 Lexus IS350 she was driving, FHP said. Arnold and passenger William James Rawald, 50, also of Phoenix, were taken to Lee Memorial Hospital.

Harris wasn’t wearing a seatbelt when the wreck took place at about 7:45 p.m., FHP also said. It’s not entirely clear whether she was inside or outside her car at the time of the crash.

FHP is asking anyone who saw what happened to call them at 239-344-1730.
