$10M traffic signal upgrades to improve driving in Lee County

FORT MYERS, Fla. – The Traffic Operation Center is in charge of monitoring traffic flows and making sure drivers’ community run smoothly. In 95 of 400 Lee County intersections, a traffic management system uses fiber optic connection to monitor situations on the roads in real time.

For the more than 300 intersections without the technology, operators use an outdated dial-up system from the 1990s. Lee County will expand the advanced traffic management system to the remaining intersection in phases.
