NEW PORT RICHEY, Fla. (AP) – Two children were struck by bullets in separate drive-by shootings Sunday across Florida, authorities said.

A baby is recovering after a bullet hit her as she slept in her New Port Richey home, according to authorities.

Pasco County Sheriff’s spokesman Kevin Doll said multiple shots were fired outside the baby’s house in New Port Richey late Sunday.

Doll says the baby, a 1-year-old girl, was struck in the wrist. She was taken to a hospital and her condition isn’t thought to be life-threatening. The girl’s name was not released.

Investigators say the shooting doesn’t appear to be random. In a news release early Monday, Doll said the baby’s mother is a “documented gang member.”

The case remains under investigation.

Meanwhile, in Miami, police say an 8-year-old girl was shot in the head during a drive-by shooting outside her home.

Miami-Dade police spokesman Daniel Ferrin said in an news release that the girl was standing near the front door of the house when the shooting started Sunday evening. Her 32-year-old father was shot multiple times in the torso and taken to the hospital where he was listed in stable condition.

An update on the girl’s condition wasn’t available Monday morning.

Authorities say at least two men pulled up in a black sedan and began shooting at the father.

Police don’t have anyone in custody. They say it’s too early to say whether the shooting was related to another nearby shooting over the weekend in which two people were killed at a wake, but it does not appear to be related to the shooting in New Port Richey.
