Collier County inmate accuses guards of abuse

FORT MYERS, Fla. – William Naylor says he was beat up for no reason while being booked at the Collier County Naples Jail Center in January 2015.

“The officer fingerprinted me and told me I needed to stay calm and I said ‘Sir, I am calm’ and the next I know I’m flying into a wall,” he said.

Video shows Naylor being fingerprinted before a deputy shoves him out view. Naylor says he was pushed to the ground by Deputy Shawn Micciche who continued to hit him while another deputy began kicking him.

Both deputies have denied any wrongdoing, while Naylor believes footage backs his claims.

“From what they’re saying, I pulled my hand away from them. That’s what their defense in the whole thing is,” Naylor said. “Looking at the video, clearly I did not pull my hand away.”

Naylor was facing a misdemeanor battery charge the day he was jailed.

He filed a lawsuit against the Collier County Sheriff’s Office in October 2015. Neither party was able to come to an agreement at a Wednesday mediation hearing.

A trial will commence. Naylor said he hopes the video will speak for itself.
