CAPE CORAL, Fla. – A mother became concerned for her 10-year-old daughter’s safety when she discovered a stranger messaging her through Google Hangouts and a newer app called YouNow.

The following is a statement YouNow issued to WINK News:

Trust is a core value of YouNow, and we are committed to the safety of our community. We have strict policies against inappropriate behavior, harassment, and illegal activities.

YouNow has a multi-layered monitoring system that addresses safety concerns and works to make our community as welcoming as it can be.  24/7 live moderators respond to any issue flagged by the community or detected by our automated systems. In addition, any user can not only flag another user, but completely block them.

Our broadcasts are monitored 24/7, and any user who is reported not to have met our standards is quickly disciplined. If you are a parent, please visit our Guide for Parents, and for more information on what is and isn’t acceptable, visit Community Standards & Site Rules.

YouNow has automated tools that help detect and limit inappropriate conduct that does not fall in line with our Community Standards. In addition, any user can block any other user from participating in their broadcasts. And the third layer is the 24/7 live moderation. We have strict policies against inappropriate behavior, harassment, and illegal activities. It is against YouNow‘s Community Standards to engage in racist and/or bigoted behavior. As such, any YouNow user can flag any other YouNow user to be reviewed by our moderation team. Our moderators, working 24/7 in 6 different languages, respond to each and every flag made by our community and take appropriate actions based on our Community Standards and/or Terms of Use.
