‘Slide the City’ moves from Edison Bridge to Lehigh

Published: Updated:

FORT MYERS, Fla. — An event that was to turn the Edison Bridge into a giant waterslide will take place in Lehigh Acres instead.

The website for the Sept. 17 Slide the City event says “last minute unforseen circumstances” forced a move to Veterans Community Park, 55 Homestead Rd S. The specific reason for the change of venue isn’t immediately clear.

Original plans called for a 900-foot waterslide. The event’s website says there will now be five slides at Veterans Park on the steepest hill they could find.

Lee County officials said they have never received a special event permit application but have been communicating with the organization. The Edison Bridge belongs to the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT).

FDOT and Slide the City have not responded to requests for comment.

Regardless, the event is set to go on rain or shine from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tickets are $55. Children must be at least 5 years old and 46 inches or taller to take part.
