Southbound Del Prado reopens after car, bicycle crash

CAPE CORAL, Fla. — A bicyclist is in the hospital with critical injuries after being struck in the southbound lanes of Del Prado Boulevard shortly before 8 a.m. Monday.

The crash took place between Viscaya Parkway and Southeast Tenth Street and shut down traffic for nearly three hours. The road reopened at about 10:45 a.m.

The bicyclist was identified as David Biasotti of Cape Coral. He was sent to the hospital with life-threatening injuries to his head, according to the Cape Coral Police Department.

Biasotti moved in front of her car just before the collision, according to the driver of the involved car, Tamara Moreno. Investigators said Biasotti crossed the northbound lanes of Del Prado then began to cross the southbound lanes when the light turned green.

He was not wearing a helmet, according to the Cape Coral Police Department.
