Diplomat student, substitute teacher hospitalized during evacuation

CAPE CORAL, Fla. — A Diplomat Elementary School student and substitute teacher were taken to Cape Coral Hospital after standing outside the school while it was evacuated during an unsubstantiated bomb threat Monday, a Lee County School District official said.

It’s unclear why they were hospitalized, but about a dozen children reported being hot and thirsty as they waited to go back in the building, which was emptied for about an hour around noon. Those children were given water and ice, the official said.

Students, teachers and staff returned to the building once authorities determined there was nothing to the threat.
