MGN FORT MYERS, Fla. – A Fort Myers High School student was arrested and is accused of fighting a Lee County Sheriff’s Office deputy after becoming upset about his removal from in-school suspension on Monday. The teenage student began to yell and curse while meeting with Assistant Principal Michelle Stanford, deputies said. He continued to be disruptive even as a resource officer tried to calm him down, the department said. He then began to strike the in-school deputy who told him he was under arrest, according to arrest reports. It took both the deputy and the assistant principal to restrain the student, LCSO said. He then allegedly threatened to kill the deputy’s mother and father with a gun, according to his arrest reports. The student is facing charges for being disruptive in school, battery on an officer, making threats and resisting an officer. The student is on probation and thus is facing an additional violation charge, according to his arrest report. Parents of students at Fort Myers High School said Wednesday that the district never informed them of the student’s alleged threats. One grandmother, Nancy Maroney, said she was concerned for her student’s safety. “If that individual is still here in the school or he was coming back, I’d have to seriously think about putting her elsewhere,” she said. The school district declined to comment on the reason the student was suspended or whether he will be allowed back to Fort Myers High School. The student was taken to Lee Memorial Hospital, cleared, then taken to the Lee County Juvenile Assessment Center, LCSO said.
