PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. – A child died after authorities responded to a 9-1-1 call about a drowning at 3300 Loveland Blvd. shortly after 7 p.m. Thursday, Charlotte County deputies said.

Waylen C. Harris, who would have turned 1 year old Sept. 23, was taken to a nearby hospital where he died, according to the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office.

Waylen was found unresponsive in his family’s front yard swale with his 2 1/2-year-old sibling nearby, the sheriff’s office said.

The sheriff’s office doesn’t suspect foul play, but its investigation will continue.
