FORT MYERS, Fla. – A woman whom Fort Myers police said was killed in a Thursday morning wreck — then said was still alive in intensive care — died Friday morning, police said Friday afternoon.

Myriam Esther Knight, 77, was seriously hurt when she was was turning east from Olympia Point onto Lee Boulevard in a 2007 Toyota Corolla and failed to notice and oncoming 2004 Jeep Liberty, which struck the Corolla on the driver’s side, according to police.  The Corolla landed in a ditch, and emergency crews had to rip the driver’s side door from the vehicle to get Knight out.

She survived the wreck but died while at Lee Memorial Hospital, police said Friday.

“We were provided with inaccurate information that she died earlier today as a result of her injuries,” the department said in a statement Thursday afternoon.
