CRYSTAL RIVER, Fla. — Biologists, law enforcement officers and volunteers rescued two manatees trapped in a filtration marsh on the side of a road.

The seacows — a mother and her calf — wound up in the marsh because of flooding and winds caused by Hurricane Hermine earlier this month, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission said. The rescue team took them to Kings Bay and released them at a boat ramp.

Biologists gave the manatees a medical checkup before their release to ensure they were healthy enough to return to the wild, the commission said.
