FORT MYERS, Fla. — Tropical Depression 13 has strengthened into Tropical Storm Lisa, the 12th named system in the Atlantic Ocean this year, the National Hurricane Center said. Lisa is in the far eastern Atlantic Ocean, about 430 miles west of the Cabo Verde Islands, with sustained winds of 40 mph, according to the hurricane center. It’s moving northwest at 12 mph and doesn’t appear likely to pose a threat to Southwest Florida. Forecast models show the system curving northward and weakening by the weekend. Also in the Atlantic, Tropical Storm Karl is forecast to begin strengthening in another day or two. Its maximum sustained winds have decreased to near 40 mph. Karl is centered about 530 miles east-northeast of the Leeward Islands and is moving west-northwest near 17 mph. Karl is also forecast to arc away from the continental United States.
