Police identify car in alleged downtown Fort Myers attack

FORT MYERS, Fla. – A woman said she was trying to ask for directions while downtown when she was attacked on Sept. 25 after 3 a.m. — then her alleged attacker got away in a car caught on camera.

A man began to give her directions but then tried to sexually assault her behind a building at 2431 First St., Fort Myers police said. He only stopped when another man heard the victim’s screams and ran to the rescue, police said. That witness saw the man run to a vehicle then drive away, according to the Fort Myers Police Department.

FMPD continues to investigate the attempted sexual assault.
