FORT MYERS, Fla. — Bill Clinton spoke about voter registration, economic equality and dealt with a heckler Tuesday as he stumped for his wife’s presidential campaign in front of an audience of about 300 people Tuesday in Fort Myers.

Another 400 to 500 people were gathered outside during the speech at the Riverside Community Center, 3061 E. Riverside Drive, organizers said. The venue normally has space for only about 200 people.

Wednesday’s looming voter registration deadline set the stage for the event, which was put together at the last minute, according to officials from Hillary Clinton’s camp. It wasn’t until Monday that the campaign announced the rally would take place.

Clinton had been speaking for about 15 minutes when he was interrupted by a man dressed in a Hillary Clinton T-shirt who shouted “Bill’s a rapist,” a reference to dismissed allegations the Trump campaign brought up Sunday.
