1 dead after jetski crash off Captiva

CAPTIVA, Fla. — A jetskier who crashed off Captiva and went into cardiac arrest has died, WINK News has learned.

Orlando resident Hector Santiago, 24, died after his jetski hit a piling, according to FWC. The handlebars were ripped off in the wreck, which took place not far from South Seas Island Resort. Crews were called to the scene at about 7:20 p.m. and located Santiago after a search.

The Coast Guard and Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission are two of 16 different agencies that were involved in an effort to save Santiago.
