ARCADIA, Fla. — A 54-year-old Sebring man is dead after a crash that shut down State Road 31 just north of County Road 760, Florida Highway Patrol said.

The fiery wreck took place at about 4:15 p.m. when a pickup truck towing a trailer and two dump trucks collided, according to FHP. The road is expected to remain closed for several hours, FHP said shortly after 9 p.m.

The man who died, whom FHP declined to identify pending notification of his next of kin, was driving one of the dump trucks. He was traveling northbound on State Road 31 when the other dump truck, driven by 30-year-old Adonis D. Pupo of Naples, spun out and crossed the center line, FHP said.

The dump trucks ran into each other. A Chevy 3500 HD driven by 22-year-old Blaine J. Penner of Arcadia was following the dump truck driven by the man who died. The Chevy hit the back of that truck. All three vehicles caught on fire, according to FHP.
