Deputies: Man fabricated story about Whiskey Creek stabbing

Published: Updated:

SOUTH FORT MYERS, Fla. — A man who told authorities in August that he was the victim of a stabbing and robbery was arrested Friday after the Lee County Sheriff’s Office determined he filed a false report.

Richardson, 45, initially told detectives that an unknown suspect assaulted him in an elevator at his Whiskey Creek apartment, robbing him and leaving him with stab wounds, Southwest Florida Crime Stoppers said.

Richardson indeed had superficial stab wounds, but his story changed over time and had numerous inconsistencies, according to Crime Stoppers. DNA evidence helped lead the sheriff’s office to decide he was lying.

It’s unclear how he sustained the wounds.

A court hearing is set for Oct. 25. Richardson is free on bond.
