CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. (AP) – Authorities say a former student was arrested at a South Florida high school after reports that he was carrying a gun.

Corals Springs police spokeswoman Carla Kmiotek says in an email that the 17-year-old boy faces a felony charge of possessing a firearm on school property and three misdemeanors.

Kmiotek says two girls reported the gun to Coral Springs High School’s resource officer Monday after another boy told them about the gun.

The officer found the former student in the cafeteria, detained him and recovered the loaded 9mm handgun. The school was placed on lockdown while police searched for a friend of the former student. That boy was eventually found with a small “journal” in his pocket that mentioned shooting up the school in January.

No injuries were reported.
