IMMOKALEE, Fla. — The Department of Children and Families is investigating a deadly Oct. 7 crash that killed a 6-year-old who was walking to the bus stop with his mother.

The driver of the 2007 GMC Sierra that struck the boy was 16-year-old Steven Salazar of Immokalee. The 6-year-old, fellow Immokalee resident Luis Reynosa Francisco, died at NCH Healthcare Northeast from the injuries he suffered in the wreck.

Florida Highway Patrol said Francisco darted out in front of Salazar’s truck at the roundabout on North 19th Street near Immokalee Road. Salazar has not been cited for any wrongdoing.
